Welcome to Year 4

We teach as a team. It is likely that all of us will teach your child at some point this year.

Curriculum Overview

PE

We do PE every Monday afternoon. Please make sure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit. We will also be doing short fitness activities most days, so please make sure your child wears appropriate footwear to ensure that they are safe.

PE kit:

  • Plain shorts / leggings / tracksuit bottoms with school badge: (dark blue or John Scurr blue)
  • Plain long or short sleeved T-shirt (white or pale blue). Additional sweatshirt (blue).
  • They will also need trainers or plimsolls.

Music

Music is on Friday mornings. Glockenspiels with a specialist music teacher.

Swimming

We go swimming on Fridays at Mile End Leisure Centre. Children need to be in school at 8.30am on Fridays. Lateness will lead to an emergency phone call and might mean that the parent will have to take the child to the swimming pool themselves.

Rashford Class will go swimming every week in the Autumn term, until February 2025.

Thunberg Class will swim every week from February 2025-July 2025.

We may send Worksheets home as the school year progresses.

Maths

TT Rock Stars and learning times tables. In Year 4 the children will be using TTRS to help them learn and the times tables from 1-12. They will prepare for a national times tables test which will take place in June 2025.

Reading at Home

In KS2 the children are expected to read for 20 minutes per day. Please make sure your child brings their book bag to school every day.

Attendance & Punctuality

  • The main gates open at 8:45am.
  • The bell will ring at 8:45am.
  • Our guided reading begins at 8:50am, meaning anyone who is late is missing out on learning.
  • Arrival after 9:00am will be marked as late.

We hold high expectations of all of our students and expect them to attend school on time, every single day. Missing a single session has a negative impact on their learning and progress and we encourage you to mirror the same expectations at home. Please encourage your children to attend and refrain from keeping them at home unless absolutely necessary.
